Reducing the environmental impact from the daily activities of our company. This includes reducing the CO2e emissions generated by our workspace, our transportation, what we buy and consume. We will do this by developing and implementing an operational framework for measuring and mitigating our negative environmental impact. Whatever CO2e emission we cannot get rid of immediately, we will offset.
Engaging our clients in creating positive impact. We commit to push the projects we take part in towards becoming more sustainable. We will pursue projects and collaborations that foster environmental and social value – and work with our current and future clients on identifying relevant actions and strategies to integrate sustainability in the core of their business.
Initiating partnerships across sectors. We are going to commit our skills and expertise to raise awareness about the challenges and solutions we have before us. We want to develop and facilitate new, meaningful projects and partnerships that concentrate and amplify our efforts, joining forces with other actors of change. We will support individuals, organisations and companies that are driving positive change, but might lack resources, funding or expertise to realise their full potential.
Sharing our journey and reviewing our impact openly and honestly. We will develop and communicate targets, plainly formulated and available to the public. An essential part of our ambition is to cultivate our understanding of what actions matters – and share that knowledge. We aspire to develop a clear and engaging representation of our journey and hope that it might contribute – however modestly – to the building of a new conversation, and ultimately a new culture, around the way we discuss impact and take action.
We want to set an example by doing. To be able to go out in the world and participate in driving change, we first need to understand the boundaries of possibility defining what we can and cannot do. That is why we adopt a transparent and systematic approach to mapping, reducing and reporting our environmental impact, which emcompasses all aspects of our daily activities including how we move, where we work and what we buy.
How we move
In 2020, we will reduce the CO2e emissions generated from our business travels by 30% with the aim of reaching zero net emissions by 2030. In order to achieve this, we commit to:
Minimizing our flying, invest in better technology for video-conferencing and bundle our meeting activities in a more effective manner.
Avoiding flying domestically, or if a business trip is shorter than 500 km. If it is further away, we will try to find alternatives first.
Instituting a policy for car rentals, taxi rides and delivery services stipulating the exclusive use of electric vehicles when possible, and lowest emission option when not.
Where we work
In 2020, we will reduce the CO2e emissions generated from heat and electricity used in our offices to the furthest extent possible. In order to achieve this, we commit to:
Switching to an electricity provider offering only 100% renewable energy.
Tracking and mapping our energy with the intent of reducing the total amount of energy use by 30%.
Engaging with our landlord to co-develop a plan for optimizing the energy efficiency of our office.
What we buy
In 2020, we will institute a sustainable procurement policy addressing everything we buy and consume. In order to achieve this, we commit to:
Maintaining and repairing the things we own, and when we do have to replace them, we will upgrade to products with the least negative impact.
Serving vegetarian food and developing a sustainability policy guiding what snacks, coffee and drinks we buy.
Instituting a policy with clear guidelines for waste reduction, management and recycling, including hosting- and cloud-services where we will clean out idle files and implement a routine of keeping as little unnecessary data as possible.
Offsetting CO2e
The number one priority for us is to get rid of as much of our emissions as possible, but unfortunately we cannot reach zero emissions immediately. For that reason, we are going to offset the unavoidable emissions. While we realise the inherent problems of carbon offset schemes, we consider it better than doing nothing at all. We are currently exploring potential models to offset our CO2 emissions that we can implement in 2020.
To catalyze wider change in our industry we will invest time and resources in building the capabilities of everyone we collaborate with. We are driven by the conviction that our partners and clients can and will do more if given the tools to do so. In order to achieve this, we commit to:
Helping our clients to catalyze their engagement in taking the first steps towards becoming sustainable by identifying actions promoting more positive impact and develop a format for providing a sustainability assessment and action plan.
Avoiding projects which are directly environmentally harmful and completely lack the possibility of generating positive impact.
Sharing our knowledge and best practice in regards to strategic procurement with our business partners, thus building capabilities throughout the supply chain.
We offer a culture and design infused set of skills that we believe can contribute to driving positive change. We will develop and facilitate new, meaningful projects and partnerships that concentrate and amplify our efforts, joining forces with other actors of change. We commit to:
Organising events with the specific purpose of sharing and disseminating knowledge and best practice, inspiring the development of new partnerships across sectors and industries.
Supporting projects driving positive change, but which might lack resources, funding or expertise to realise their full potential.
Identifying at least one issue that deserve urgent attention and initiate a collaborative project to that addresses it.
We want to be held accountable for living up to our goals and commitments. We will be transparent throughout our journey, making both victories and setbacks available for public scrutiny. We commit to:
Developing new and engaging formats for reporting our impact with the intention of inspiring others to take action. This includes sharing relevant updates on our journey and how we stand in relation to our commitments.
Continuously investing resources in strengthening our knowledge about the issues at hand by disseminating it through various media, public events and our network activities.
Impacting the window of discourse towards concrete and actionable change. We will engage in the public debate and invite other agents of change to join forces with us.
