Faaborg Museum is a gem! A little piece of Danish gesamtkunstwerk, conceived in 1915 as a coherent and carefully crafted holistic experience of art. When challenged with the task of creating a new visual identity for the museum, Urgent.Agency did what came naturally – extracting and extending the DNA of the museum itself and taking good care not to harm the unbroken legacy in the process.
Visibility is a major challenge for many of Denmark’s art museums. Approaching their 100-year anniversary Faaborg Museum applied to the New Carlsberg Foundation for financial support for a research-based publication related to the museum's 100th anniversary. However, they ended up with much more than that! With additional support from the foundation, the museum embarked on a comprehensive branding and communication process leading up to the anniversary.
In partnership with communication and PR agency Bates Y&R, Urgent.Agency developed the visual identity, wayfinding, digital design and the 100-year anniversary publication. Our work involved the development of a comprehensive design program, including the development of new fonts, colour profiles, stylized patterns from the museum's floors and designs of tickets, business cards, letterheads, posters, and ads.
The graphic design was inspired by the abundance of beautiful details in the existing décor. Photo: Hélène Binet
